An Information Theoretic Framework for Predictive Channel Reservation in GPRS Push-to-Talk Service

چکیده
The wireless telecommunication industry is now slowly shifting the paradigm from circuit-switched voice-alone network to an integrated packet switched architecture. This will facilitate variety of new multimedia applications, in the same infrastructure, in a cost-efficient way. However, it is important to use the legacy 2.5G access systems as much as possible, to make the transition smooth. The recent industry-wide trend for push-totalk services in GPRS networks is a direct consequence of this emerging packet-switch services. In this paper, we propose such a packet-switched based architectural framework for efficient push-to-talk and data services in GPRS using low-bit-rate coding. The prime novelty and advantage of the framework lies in proposing new intelligent, advanced channel reservation techniques to reduce the voice packet delay. Subsequent use of packet-classification and packet assembly scheme aids in reducing the overhead associated with the media packet transfer. Our proposed framework results in more than 50% capacity gain over current GSM system using a silent detection mechanism.

Resource management policies in GPRS systems
In this paper we consider the problem of resource management in GSM/GPRS cellular networks offering not only mobile telephony services, but also data services for the wireless access to the Internet. In particular, we investigate channel allocation policies that can provide a good tradeoff between the QoS guaranteed to voice and data services end users, considering three different alternatives,...
متن کاملDesign and Implementation for SIP-based Push-to- Talk Services over 802.11 Networks
Push-to-Talk (PTT) is a service that allows users using mobile phones in a way like walkie-talkie. All big telecommunication vendors and operators consider PTT an emerging application. 3GPP and OMA regulate the PTT specifications on the basis of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) to assure interoperability. However, current PTT services are dedicated to cellular phones. We would like to realize ...
متن کاملChannel allocation and performance study for the integrated GSM/GPRS system
We propose dynamic channel allocation schemes which employ techniques such as channel reservation, service priority and queueing strategies (with or without threshold control) etc. Using these techniques allows system designers to differentiate Quality of Service (QoS) requirements (e.g., new call blocking/handoff forced termination probability and delay) required by different types of service....
متن کاملModeling and Analysis of the Behavior of GPRS Systems
The General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) has recently become a standard to extend the services provided by the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM). GPRS addresses packetoriented traffic, by allowing a more efficient usage of the radio resources with a consequent improvement in the QoS of subscribers. This paper focuses on a preliminary evaluation of dependability and performance figure...
متن کاملImproving LoRaWAN Performance Using Reservation ALOHA
LoRaWAN is one of the new and updated standards for IoT applications. However, the expected high density of peripheral devices for each gateway, and the absence of an operative synchronization mechanism between the gateway and peripherals, all of which challenges the networks scalability. In this paper, we propose to normalize the communication of LoRaWAN networks using a Reservation-ALOHA (R-A...
